Applications

Underplate grouting The unrestrained surface area of the grout must be kept to a minimum. Generally, the gap between the perimeter formwork and the plate edge should not exceed 75 mm on the pouring side and 25 mm on the opposite side. Formwork on the flank sides should be kept tight to the plate edge. Air pressure relief holes should be provided to allow venting of any isolated high spots. Formwork The formwork should be constructed to be leak-proof as Conbextra EPGP is a free flow grout. This can be achieved by using foam rubber strip or mastic sealant beneath the constructed formwork and between joints. Foundation surface This must be free from oil, grease, or any loosely adherent material. If the concrete surface is defective or has laitence, it must be cut back to a sound base. Bolt holes or fixing pockets must be blown clean of any dirt or debris. Base plate If delay is likely before placing steel base plates, it is recom- mended that the underside and edge are coated with Nitoprime 25* primer to prevent rust formation and ensure bonding with the Conbextra EPGP grout. Nitoprime 25 can be applied directly onto newly cleaned steel surfaces even if they are damp. All surfaces must be substantially dry. All free standing water must be removed. Multi-purpose, epoxy resin grout

The entire contents of the hardener should be poured into the base container and mixed until homogeneous. Place the mixed base and hardener into a suitable forced action mixer making sure that the entire volume is poured in. Add the aggregate and mix for 2-3 minutes or until uniform colour is achieved. Placing Place the grout within the pot life of the material. After this time, unused material will have stiffened and should be discarded. Continuous grout flow is essential. Sufficient grout must be available prior to starting and the time taken to pour a batch must be regulated to the time taken to prepare the next one. Pouring should be from one side of the void to eliminate air entrapment. The hydrostatic head must be maintained at all times so that a continuous grout front is achieved.

Health and safety

Some people are sensitive to epoxy resin so gloves and a barrier cream such as Kerodex 71, Rozalex 9, Debba-Wet Work or similar should be used when handling these prod- ucts. If contact with the resin occurs, it must be removed before it hardens with a resin removing cream such as Kerocleanse 22 or Rozalex 42. Follow by washing with soap and water. Do not use solvent. The use of goggles is recommended but should accidental eye contamination occur, wash thoroughly with plenty of clean water and seek medical treatment immediately. Fire Nitoprime 25 and Fosroc Solvent 102 are flammable. No smoking. Use in well ventilated areas away from sources of heat and naked flames. Flash points Nitoprime 25 : 39ºC Fosroc Solvent 102 : 33ºC

It is also able to offer on-site technical assistance, an AutoCAD facility and dedicated specification assistance in locations all over the world. For further information on any of the services or other products offered by Fosroc, please consult your local Fosroc office, as below.

Cleaning

All tools and equipment should be cleaned with Fosroc Solvent 102* immediately after use.

Limitation
  • For underplate grouting, failure to adhere to “Instructions
  • for use”, may result in cracking & edge uplifting.
  • High temperature working
  • For temperatures above 35ºC, special procedures need to
  • be adopted, refer to your local Fosroc office for further
  • advice.
  • Estimating
Equipment
  • It is suggested that the following list of equipment is adopted as a minimum requirement
  • Protective clothing : Protective overalls
  • : Good quality gloves, goggles and face mask
  • Preparation equipment : Electric or pneumatic breaker
  • : Hammer and chisel
  • Mixing equipment : Forced Action Mixer
  • Fosroc mixing paddle
  • Application equipment : Formwork
  • : Pouring equipment
  • constructive solutions
  • Application - points of note
  • Fosroc operates a policy to encourage the use, where possible, of approved or licensed applicators.
  • This ensures that works are completed satisfactorily so that the long term performance of the
  • materials is assured. For contractors who wish to apply the materials themselves Fosroc is also able
  • to offer technical assistance and training, either on-site or at its Training Centre in Dubai.
  • Section B : Application Method
  • 0 Surface Preparation
  • Attention to full and proper preparation is essential to successful grouting.
  • The substrate surface must be free from oil, grease or any loosely adherent material.
  • If the concrete surface is defective or has laitence, it must be cut back to a sound base.
  • Bolt holes or fixing pockets must be blown clean of any dirt or debris.
  • Bearing plate/base plate
  • The underside of the base plate should be clean and free from oil, grease, rust, scale or other
  • loosely adherent material.
  • It is recommended that the underside and edges of the base plate be coated with Nitoprime
  • primer to prevent rust formation and ensure bonding with the Conbextra EPGP grout.
  • Formwork - General
  • Before fixing any formwork, ensure that the area to be grouted is clean.
  • The formwork itself must be constructed to be leakproof, to prevent any possible grout loss.
  • This can be achieved by using foam rubber strip or mastic sealant beneath the formwork, and
  • at any joints in the formwork. It shall, however, also be provided with drain holes and plugs.
  • The formwork should also be constructed in such a way as to keep the final, unrestrained
  • surface area of the grout to a minimum, to avoid problems with cracking at a later stage.
  • It should be fixed in such a way as to allow easy stripping, without causing damage or
  • distress to the grout.
  • constructive solutions
  • All dirt and debris to be removed from the grout area before the last piece of formwork is
  • fixed.
  • Formwork - Geometry
  • Pouring side
  • set up so that grout will be poured the shortest distance across the base plate
  • erected a maximum of 75 mm from the base plate edge
  • Open side
  • set up directly opposite the pouring side
  • erected a maximum of 25 mm from the plate edge
  • Flanking sides
  • set up flush with the plate edge
  • close attention to „grout tightness‟ of the formwork
  • Mixing
  • The entire contents of the hardener can should be poured into the base container and mixed
  • until homogeneous.
  • Place the resultant material into a suitable forced action mixer and ensure that the entire
  • volume is poured in.
  • Add the aggregate and mix for 2-3 minutes or until uniform colour is achieved.
  • constructive solutions
  • Under no circumstances should part packs be used, as this will change the resin:powder
  • ratio, adversely affecting material performance and automatically invalidating Fosroc‟s
  • standard product guarantee.
  • Placing
  • It is essential that the machine mixing capacity, material supply and labour availability is adequate to
  • enable the grouting operation to be carried out continuously.
  • Prior to placement, ensure that all surfaces are dry.
  • Any bolt pockets must be grouted prior to grouting between the substrate and the base plate.
  • Continuous grout flow during the grouting operation is essential. Sufficient grout must be
  • available prior to starting, and time taken to pour a batch must be regulated to the time taken
  • to prepare the next one.
  • The mixed grout should be poured only from one side of the void to eliminate the entrapment
  • of air. The hydrostatic head must be maintained at all times so that a continuous grout front is
  • achieved.
  • When the grout reaches the open side of the formwork, and rises above the underside of the
  • base plate, pouring should continue slowly down the length of the base plate until completed.
  • Finishing
  • Wherever possible unrestrained “shoulders” are to be avoided. These have a tendency to
  • crack and/or debond, due to their unrestrained nature.
  • Protection
  • On completion of the grouting operation, all areas of grout should be protected from solar
  • heat gain by providing shade over the whole area.
  • Section C : Approval and variations
  • constructive solutions
  • This method statement is offered by Fosroc as a „standard proposal‟ for the application of Conbextra
  • EPGP. It remains the responsibility of the Engineer to determine the correct method for any given
  • application.
  • Where alternative methods are to be used, these must be submitted to Fosroc for approval, in
  • writing, prior to commencement of any work. Fosroc will not accept responsibility or liability for
  • variations to the above method statement under any other condition.
